Town Planning
Extending a detached Victorian house in a heritage neighbourhood, this addition takes the form of a simple contemporary volume that recedes from the street to maintain the presence of its century-old neighbouring buildings. The volume’s shape is derived from the structure of a barn attic, which minimises the overshadowing of adjacent properties. The new is clearly distinguished from the old, and external spaces carved from the new building form are expressed in a timber cladding. Windows with deep reveals puncture the thick rendered volume.
